I know this might be terrible, but I really liked the movie National Treasure. I think we could quickly name ten really dumb movies featuring Nicholas Cage, but that shouldn’t negate the handful of good films he has done. Maybe it’s the conspiracy theories, the fun gadgets, or possibly just the idea that there will always be treasures to uncover if only we are willing to risk something.
Self-discovery can be an exhilarating and terrifying thing. I’ve realized recently that most humans are a fantastic blend of things we love about ourselves (because we’ve chosen them) and things we dislike (because we haven’t chosen them, or we can’t shake them). Sometimes the most healthy thing I can do is go digging. I need to have a vulnerability with myself. There are things that need to be churned up - things I can claim as new elements of myself, or confess and release them.
Pray these things. Share these things.
To be truly loved means to be fully known, forgiven, and accepted anyways.
Scripture: Matthew 7:21-23 (NLT)
“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.”
